At a press conference on Monday March 6, 2006, Congressman Alan B. Mollohan publicly announced formation of the Urologic Research Institute, which will focus on innovative research methods directed toward the effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and other urologic disorders.

The Urologic Research Institute, an affiliate of Wheeling Hospital, was recently awarded a $75,000 grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to provide state-wide education about testicular cancer to educators and to teach young men the appropriate technique for testicular self-examination in order to increase rates of early detection and cure.
